Announcing the next Public AI Seminar
Dear all,
Please join us for the next season of the Public AI Seminar, a research seminar exploring public AI and other forms of public interest AI. This season will focus on art, culture, and the creative industries—in particular, how creatives can build power in an age of AI. Several spots will be reserved for creative professionals in any medium.
The seminar will run for 8 weeks between April 22 and June 10, and will feature talks & discussions led by Ted Chiang (author), Reema Selhi (DACS, British Copyright Council), Mat Dryhurst (artist, Spawning), EM Lewis-Jong (Mozilla), Martin Tisné (AI Collaborative, Current AI), David White (3CG Ventures, ex-SAG-AFTRA), Teri Olle and Taylor Jo Isenberg (Economic Security Project) Angie Kim and Jessica Mele (Center for Cultural Innovation), Gideon Lichfield (journalist, ex-Wired), Nils Gilman (Berggruen), Marietje Schaake (Stanford), and Kim Stanley Robinson (author).
We are currently recruiting a small group of seminar members; joining the seminar is an excellent chance to develop a project or learn about public AI with an engaged community. Applications for the seminar can be found here and are due April 15, AOE. For more details, please visit the seminar page.
Particular to this season: thanks to the generous support of the Center for Cultural Innovation, we will be hosting an in-person convening in the late summer in Los Angeles bringing together speakers and members of the seminar, as well as offering a small set of creative fellowships to support explorations of public AI in different media.
Please feel free to forward this notice. Apologies for any cross-posting.
Warmly,
Josh (Metagov), with Alek (Open Future), Victoria (Serpentine), and B (Aspen)
P.S. If you were a member of the previous seminars, we would love to have you join us again. However, please re-apply so that we can account for numbers and updated bios.
